Ghosts In This City - Public Art

The City of Vancouver put out a call for artists to create new artworks to be installed on traffic control boxes around Vancouver. Out of 400 applications they would select and commission 40 artists. I was very lucky to be selected.
Imagine a city of ghosts where the inhabitants pretend not to see one another and avoid contact in fear of acknowledging or revealing their presence.

“We’re all Just Ghosts in this City” is designed to explore the theme of isolation and loneliness that social discrimination can affect an individual.

Being treated as socially invisible, avoiding social interaction and pretending that they do not exist is not something that only the minority suffer from but also the majority suffering from social anxiety.

The piece was created to encourage the viewer to accept the existence of one another, to dispel the fear of talking to one another and to create a friendlier city where everyone could be seen equally.
